As an owner of a misunderstood dog, I learned first hand how misleading information can be detrimental to a human/canine relationship.

After I rescued my first dog Red, I did what any normal dog owner would do. I looked for a good trainer. The first trainer I saw used treats, which was no good when I would go to the offleash park, as Red’s 'aggression' towards other dogs overrode her desire to eat. I tried using a halti, and eventually  resorted to a choke chain and even a muzzle.

So called 'good trainers' told me that Red was aggressive (but they didn't give me any tools to work with this so called 'aggression'), and being naive, I believed them. Fascinated by the last trainer I saw, I decided to become a dog trainer myself. I was planning to shadow a well known Calgary trainer, but after the first class I sat in on, I asked if I could bring Red to the next class. This trainer told me that he was liable for the dogs in his class and would prefer I didn’t bring Red; incase she attacked one of the dogs and caused injury. It made me think, “If he doesn’t trust my dog, that he trained, how can I learn anything from him? He obviously isn’t confident in what he does.”

That is when I went on a quest to find quality education by someone who knew what they were talking about. That is when I stumbled upon Brad, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Since being certified by Brad 4 years ago, I have added to my canine family and human family. Two dogs, a husband and two children.

Although Red is no longer with me, she was the dog that started it all. Thanks to Brad, I was able to fully appreciate Red for all she was and enjoy her to the very end.

My lifelong passion has always been animals, particularly dogs.  It's now time to focus in on that passion and help others the way Brad helped me. By improving people’s relationships with their dogs,  I know I will be making a tremendous difference in their lives.
