Brad's book......do you recommend it? Posted: 1 Month, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
I'm assuming I already know the answer to this question, but I'd really like your honest opinions on it.

I've got a VERY hard headed little Shiba Inu. She's good with sit/down/stay/paw, but doesn't come worth a darn. I'd love to be able not to worry about her sticking around our property, if she were ever to get out, but I don't trust her as far as I can throw he.

And for those who do recommend the book, just curious as to how long it took your dog before you started seeing results? She's 1 year old (just turned). We've had her in training class before (hense the sit/stay etc) but she needs more intense training.

My honest opinion - absolutely one of the best investments you can make when it comes to your dog. I have a number of dogs in my life - wish he had written it 15 years ago when I had my Akita. The dogs in between didn't need this book (I might have, but they didn't). The dog I have now - oh yes indeed. I think this book is essential for anyone who has a dog with the "dominant" gene. This includes fear issues, barking, aggression, lack of self-confidence etc. I know there are people out there with dogs that do fine without Brad's training methods. But for those of us who have tried other methods and had them make little or no difference - I can't thank Brad enough. As for how long it takes to show - depends on the dog. Some dogs get worse before they get better, last hurrah at them trying to get things back to how they were before giving in to how things are going to be. The key to the training is consistency. Some things you'll notice a difference right away.

Don't delay, get the book and start right away. Just so you know, I've never met Brad or any of the trainers or taken any of the classes or courses. I bought the book and the collar and work with Maya every day. I have noticed a huge difference since I got her (8 weeks ago) and expect this to be a long, long process but also expect it to last a lifetime if I'm willing to put the time in.

Good luck!

I totally agree with MayasMom, the book is awesome!!! I have a 90pd shepherd and if I wouldn't have practiced and practiced what it says in the book I think he would have gotten out of control and I wouldn't have been able walk him! Back in August I dislocated my shoulder, if he hadn't been trained properly he wouldn't of had any walks til I was fully healed! And thats about 4-6 weeks. Well with Brads book and my obedience classes I was able to continue with our everyday walks! I was also lucky enough to find a trainer that basically trains the same as Brad! So YES get the book! You will not be wasteing your money!

I have to say YES go for it! I have done my training from watching the shows on television,I recently got his book here, still reading and practicing the techniques.Today i was so impressed with Heidi in our local park, for the first time i let her off leash, but not without checking for other dogs in the park 1st.Lo and behold -she did come to me when i called her,she seems to do as commanded if i slap my thigh and say come,I dont always have the fingers to snap sometimes they just don't work lol.Presently its just baby steps for training, but hey Rome wasn't built in a day eighther.
I used to search for other training methods, before realizing that Brads is the way to go.HTH

I also agree with everything that's been said. The book is fabulous! So much information, I think I read it all in one night. There is SOOOO much information, it is a bit overwhelming, so I recommend that you start with one thing at a time - ie. don't try to use all of the commands at once. For example, start with umbilical and no talking. Then add a new command each week once you master one of the other ones.

Good luck, have fun, and enjoy your successes!

Brad's book is worth more than a library worth of gold!
His methods are amazing and this book is easy to understand and implement.
If you actually put in the time and the effort I would think you would start seeing small results at the end of a week. That's if you're consistent and you follow through.
I'm on my second reading of the book, and I'm still getting more from it than I did the first time. It also comes with a work book so you can plot your successes.
Start with the 2 hours of umbilical a day (more if you have the time) and no talking to her for 2 weeks. That in itself will earn you change in her behaviour. Just keep it up and you'll be amazing at what a change you will see in your dog!
Oh yah, and make sure you don't let her up on the furniture!

Is there no print version? I really hate reading books on my computer... how long is it? (ie, is it too long to just print it out?)
