No, not the exercise machine - me and my dog, Sushi!

I"ve always allowed Sushi to go ahead of me, because I have bad knees and the last thing I need is to go flying down the stairs. Sushi never runs like a maniac down the stairs, he's very careful. But, I always preferred him in front so I could see where he is. Same with the cats, but that's a whole other issue - Brad, can I put my cats on umbilical???

Anyways, within 1.5 weeks, Sushi now waits for me to go up or down the stairs. At first he would follow and I would block him, but now he just waits until I'm off the steps and give the command "ok". He does it without me even having to ask him to wait or stay!

Bonnie,

My cat is trained on a leash and harnest!

I can walk her down the street or in my yard no problem. She will listen to me just like a dog. If I tell her to "sit nice" she will sit down. She has these toy mice that she will bring to me, cry (meow) then I will throw, she will chase and bring right back - like at my feet. It's quite hilarious to most people. I found my cat when she was 3-4 weeks old and bottle fed her so this may have something to do with it. I started harnesting and leashing her during this time too. When in the house, or if I needed to run to the store, I would bring her with me (I lived in a very small town, where we knew all the store owners and they didn't care. If I didn't have her with me they would ask why not? LOL). But you definitly can train them to do umbilical! All I have to do is take out my harnest and she will sit then walk right into it and wait for me to clip it on. She is a indoor cat, but I sometimes let her out in the spring/summer ONLY on her leash and harnest for some playtime in the yard.

It is possible to umbilical a cat!

*There are some pictures of her with her harnest and leash on in my profile. None outside yet, too cold!

It's only taken 2 days for Keymo to understand the WE go up or down the stairs , and out the door first.
Some times if he succeeds to do the stairs ahead of us, neither of us TOCHES a step until he comes back biside us and WE take the stairs first.

We were surprised at how fast he got this considering we always let him lead on the stairs.
