So we did it. We took our minpins to the dog park today. Besides being charged by some great big dog that started a little scrap with them while the owner stood there and watched; which resulted in hubby yelling a few choice words at the owner...it went really well. We walked off leash down a trail forever and the dogs did fantastic. And I must say stepping on the leash when they get too far ahead seems to get their attention better than any leash correction we can do.

But the funniest thing happened. I am still giggling about it now. So we go down to the river so the dogs can have a drink and we are walking nicely along the river. We spot a couple of Canada Geese up ahead so we stopped so the geese can get into the water. Our dogs had never seen geese before for one, and those geese could probably kick their butts for two. The dogs stopped with us no problem and didn't seem to really care about the geese. Then all of a sudden the geese flapped their wings in the water and BOOM the dogs were off. Into the water. Well do you wanna talk about a couple of surprised dogs when they hit the water! Now I imagine the water was FREEZING...but our dogs have never even been in water before! They about turned so fast and headed back to shore as fast as their little legs could go. Rico actually looked quite graceful..but Chevy was another story all together. She looked pretty worried....she was paddling so hard the whole upper half of her body was out of the water! I laughed pretty hard after the fact. Anyways, since it isn't exactly warm enough to be swimming our walk ended there. Silly dogs.

My dog Scout once swam after geese and at first it was funny but then the darned thing turned on her and started flapping right at her and boy oh boy was she heading for shore then! She went back to simply chasing them into the lake and quit swimming after them after that episode.
