Great Raw Resources Posted: 7 Months ago Karma: 8
I've been getting a lot of questions about feeding raw, and I think it's great that so many are starting to make the switch! I still encourage all of you to ask me or PM any of your questions/concerns about raw feeding, but I'm going to give you guys a bunch of links that can help get you started. (These are the links that helped get me started!)

The most amazing FAQ page I have seen on raw. It give supporting evidence and pretty much helps to dispel raw feeding fears (choking on bones, salmonella poisoning etc) not to mention the amount of information you will get. www.rawfed.com/myths

This is the Yahoo group rawfeeding. They are strict that you only talk about raw feeding in this group, they don't support commercial raw in any way (yay!) and they are so helpful. Most of the questions that you guys ask me are questions I had myself and I have gotten my answers from this group. There are over 9000 people who feed raw and are willing to help other people make the switch too! http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/rawfeeding/

A man from the above feeding group compiled a FAQ and has called it Raw Feeding 101. This guy let's his dogs eat their raw meat on his carpet and doesn't clean it up after because he says they do a fine job cleaning it up themselves. He's awesome and extremely informative. http://www.skylarzack.com/rawfeeding.htm

This lady is named Jane Anderson and I'm pretty sure (but not totally positive) that she started the raw feeding group on Yahoo. I don't find the site very user friendly, but the information she gives is indispensable. http://www.rawlearning.com/rawfaq.html

This one is the raw calculator, it gives you a basic guideline of how much to feed your dog to start with. For the record, I have NEVER weighed my dog's food. I feed her and if I notice she's looking too thin, then I give her more meat. If she's starting to look a little chubby, then I reduce her portions. It's important to know your dog's body so you can decide how much is too much etc. But for the beginners, I thought this was fun: http://www.raw4dogs.com/calculate.htm

This is for all you cat lovers out there! It's the best way to switch your cat to raw. Some cats (I have one that won't even TOUCH raw meat) won't even try raw and this site gives you answers to basic questions about how to switch your cat over. http://www.rawfedcats.org/

Anyways, there they are, I hope you guys get a lot from them. Like I said, don't be afraid to ask me any questions, I'm here to help!

Good luck to everyone in making the switch!

Nathalie

Thanks Nathalie, I'll have to check those out too. Bayley seems to be a bit of a lazy eater. In other words, she'll eat her premade stuff but sometimes I give her regular meat with the bones and she kind of looks at me like do I have to chew this myself!! Today I gave her pork riblets and she ate them eventually but she didn't seem too thrilled.

Try putting her food down for 20 minutes. If she doesn't eat it in 20 minutes, take it up and put it back in the fridge. She'll soon learn to eat what's put in front of her!
I had to do that when I first got Poe. She would get distracted by the cats, or something at the door. So I just took her food and put it away. She knows that if she leaves her food, dinner is done!

That's what I usually do, had to do that this morning and didn't put it back down till this afternoon. I guess I dozed off on the couch and when I woke up most of it was gone. Two little chunks were left but I did give her a fair bit.

Morning Sondra !

We fisrt learned about feeding Raw in the middle of Feb 2008 when we attended rad's seminar here in Ottawa.
I had never heard of such a thing ! But I am open minded when it comes to what's best for my dog!

We had, at that time recently switched from (yuck - sorry) grocery store dog food to Fromms Gold and Evo kibbles after speaking with our local pet supply / groomer about dog foods. I was and still am proud that I made the switch.

But after reading so much about Raw on this site, I stared with the switch from "cooked/smoked/whatever" bones from the pet store to raw bones.
I asked a lot of questions on this site about Raw & have gotten a LOT of help/advice, etc.

Keymo, our Samoyed will be eating his first Raw meal, this saturday morning.
We're looking forward to the switch - ok -maybe ME more than my hubby, but he's coming along!

I want to do/give the best for my dog !
That's why we started training "a la Brad" !

I've attended 2 of Brads seminars and kind of remember hearing about raw feeding but never really gave it much thought. Our cocker has 3 week old puppies and is having horrible diarea. I've recieved great advise from a breeder of 10 years, but with the runny stools I think I'd like to wait til after the puppies leave to consider this switch. It's frustrating with her having the runs so much now I know my husband will freak if I do something now that might make it worse.(like switch to raw).

I'll do the research on it now and do the switch when the puppies are gone. Her bowel movements were fine until she had puppies and is now cleaning up after them(if you know what I mean).
