Hi everyone, just a question about our new puppy 11 wks today !! walks are getting worse ??? when I finally get her across the street to the sidewalk she wont move, should I tug a little to get her going ? I dont want to pull too much, when I do get her going then the pulling starts, then she starts the gaging and the whole bit. Corrections arent really phasing her either ( shes on a mission ) any suggestions ?

I take its she is pulling backwards and not forwards? Lindy first did this too when it came to sidewalks. I found that I really needed to keep walking (although probably was a lot easier with a 4lb dog that your big girl). I also just walked back and forth for the first little while, getting her to go a little ways each way and she seemed to like the idea of going back to the house but the second we passed it she sat down and it was a pulling fight again. But just keep moving, even if you are only putting slight pressure on the dogs collar the dog will eventually go your way.
Are you using a martingale? I found once I switched it made a huge difference too. Brad's Hustle Up are the best too(Lindy is all posed out for the contest now)!

I found that a lot of excitement/praise in your voice while moving forward helped me. The martingale with quick tugs to get her attention helped. Just be patient. Just this morning my 15 week pup walked at a proper heal for 15 min of a 30 min walk,,,,,,,that was cool. The rest of the time she wanted to stay 1 to 2 feet ahead of me. As soon as I did a gentle correction she came right back for a minute or 2. It all takes time and most of all patience,,,I'm lucky as I work from home so the dogs go out for 3 to 5 walks a day. Each walk has different route and degree of difficulty. The route that goes close to traffic distracts the pup the most. She wants to sit and watch the cars go by. I let her sit for a few seconds then say come and we move forward. Every time we do this walk the rests are less and less. I think she is trying to figure out why are those things going so fast and noisy. have fun
