question re:crate Posted: 3 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi! couldn't find similar answer when looking around. I am returning to work in 2 weeks and will have no choice but to crate our 4 month old puppy for 6-8 hours a day. I feel really terrible but we have no one that can come during the day and the puppy sitting service is way out of my budget. She has been in the crate for 5-6 hours before without any accidents and she can make it through the night. Any advice? Do you think my pup would adapt to his?
We also thought of putting her in our spare room with her crate in there so she would have more room (but we are afriad this would encourage accidents.)

Thanks!!!

Yeah! Your pup will adapt for sure. Some exercise before and after will be great for her. You can feel guilty if you don't.
Dogs don't mind being in a crate and left behind if they're pooped.

You can also get those big bones appropriate for a puppy and a couple of her favorite (safe) toys to keep her busy. You may try your pup a little at a time to get her used to the idea of being in there during the day, before you go back to work. So you'll have an idea on how she'll do.

Good luck!

We crated Dyson and we felt guilty about it but he's done just fine. We got him at 3 months old and he had an accident his first night in the crate but after that he's been perfect. Except for the one car ride in my car but that is another story...

As Michelle said a good early morning walk and a good evening walk will be pretty much mandatory from now on.
