other people and kids and a bit of success Posted: 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 21
Now that spring is here, all of the fair weather walkers as I like to call them, have returned. And suddenly our town is filled with children. Why don't children play outside in the winter anymore? This is southern AB for goodness sakes. Winters are a joke.

Anyway... Children walking dogs with no supervision or adults who look at me with glazed eyes when I ask them to pull their dogs in who are 20 feet out in front of them on extenda-leashes. It's the glazed eyes that are freaking me out. I repeat myself two and three times. My dog is going nuts on the leash and still they don't seem to hear or understand

PULL YOUR ********* DOG IN PLEASE!

I dont swear at people on the street. Thats just my asterix rant here. AND there is a good end to this!!!!

It happened again tonight with a new child and woman. Very nicely I am instructing this child to bring her scrambling dog in while holding my dog's front feet off the ground so she can't lunge and the mom is staring at me like she is on drugs... I shook my head and went around them. Ella was all excited and wouldn't calm down.

Finally, I turn to see what is distracting her and they have turned around and are now following us. Well, it's a free world and my dog needs to learn to chill so I used it as a teachable moment and made Ella do obstacles and stop at every street corner. Finally she settled down. Then some friends pulled up in their car to say hi and as we are chatting I am watching this mom and little girl and .... WAIT FOR IT!

They were weaving around the trees and then making their little white fluffy thing sit at the street corner.

They were trying to do what I was doing. My heart almost bust open with joy.

Aaahhh I love a happy ending!

I had one of those moments a few weeks back! My dog and I were walking in the park - he was on leash, and coming towards us was a woman with her daughter and a pitbull. The pitbull was crazy excited to see us in the distance and the woman was struggling to try and get him to sit. I approached them to say hello, and she had her dog pinned on the ground - he was 6 months old, and already so strong! So I recommended she get a martinagle collar - she was pleased cos she said he slips out of his collar so much. Well I saw them again a few weeks later - and he was wearing a martingale collar! He was walking very nicely - until he saw us lol! But she got him to lay down before we said hello - it\'s nice to see someone working hard with a so-called \'dangerous\' breed

nice to spread the love eh

wish I could say the same for this really grouchy yorkie we see pretty much every day! I go into the tennis courts to do some patience training with my dog, and I see this old guy with his yorkie on an extenda-lead, and each time, he extends the lead to let his dog say hello to mine, and he tells his yorkie \"friends now, be friends\" and each time, she snaps at my dog, and he just chuckles, says \"you don\'t fancy training this one for me do you?\" and walks off with the little one scrabbling to get back to my dog! I figure that\'s a battle not worth fighting

I can't stand people who use those extendaleash things! The other day when I had Bayley in town, we were coming out of a walkway and just as we were going to get to the sidewalk, a black dog suddenly lunges at Bayley, of course the people had an extendaleash and didn't bother keeping it short. Bayley was so surprised she didn't even have a chance to react, she just backed up out of reach of the other dog.
