Back Fence Barking Posted: 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
My Manchester Terrier/Pomeranian, Coal, continuously barks at our back fence when other dogs go by. This in turn gets Missy, our JRT, who knows better, barking too. Missy will stop when you tell her to, but Coal continues with his high pitched bark. This upsets the neighborhood at 5:30 in the morning let me tell you. Coal apparently does not care what time it is. He just barks and barks and barks.

We have tried keeping him on the leash and correcting him when he does this. It works for a while and then he goes back to barking.

I have heard that the collars that spray water work wonders. However, Coal is extremely smart and will probably figure out that when he is not wearing it...he can bark all he likes.

Help!!! Help!!! Help!!! What can we do?

Putting the leash on and doing corrections seems like the right thing to do. Just be consistent. Don't let him out there - unless you are out there too. I'm sure it will take time and loads of patience, but I am sure it will work.
