I've been buying from the grocery store and have been looking for a good butcher that can supply me with meat at a better price. Anyone have any sources in Calgary? The prices of food have gone up so much in the last while, it's hard to find good deals at the grocery stores, even on sale. Hubby's complaining that the dog is eating better than him! Catch is you have to order a month in advance and pick it up on the designated day but it's a great volunteer community that is proved to the suppliers that they're here to stay. You may have to buy some items in bulk OR you can split with another member that only needs a small amount as well. You can meet people to split that are already group members...or join with friends...another option is to buy for two months...new recruits are always welcome. When you join you can sign up for the yahoo message board, and gain a lot of valuable information on vaccinations and the BARF lifestyle. My goodness - you're in "beef country" in Alberta - they should be on every street corner ! (just jealous ) I found one only 25 minutes from where I live in Ottawa that has beef, pork and sheep! You can ask for "scrap" - that's exactly what we Raw feeders use - bones, organs, scrap meat. I found the ones in my region by going on Google. Search "Alberta government licensed abbatoirs" and there shouls be about a million in your area - good luck ! oh - and you'll find out just how much CHEAPER it will be to get meat for your self as well ! I should have been more specific...I was looking for raw meat, not pre-made raw, as we're doing strictly raw, not BARF diet. Just been feeding the dog chicken legs, backs, thighs right now and some beef chunks/ribs, but it's getting pricey unless I find a ridiculous sale at the store. Posted: 3 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 11   When in a grocery store look through the meats for "quick sale" etc. Remember, what we see as "a little brown around the edges" the dog doesn't care. I usually find lots of stuff like that. It's usually mixed in with the regular stuff.It helps to make it easier to give a variety of meats. One grocery store I shop at usually has a good selection. One day there was NOTHING and I asked one of the butchers if they had moved the "older meat" somewhere. He said no, a lady came in this morning & bought all of it! I was peeved - but I laughed ! Posted: 3 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 2   And you know Keymofrisbee, when you're looking for the discounted meats, you can't find em!! If I'm not looking for it, there's always plenty of it. Figures! LOL Our friends have a ranch and will have a cow butchered once in a while for their own use, but I have to wait now until they have another slaughtered to get some scrap. In the fall I'll have plenty of wild meat as my husband and his friends hunt, so the pup will be eating some good stuff come September! I'll check for abbatoirs though and see what I come up with.
