PitBullLove you bring up a good point about the skin and fur cocooning the fresh kill. Bones still make me nervous...but i know that the raw diet is MUCH better for them than kibble. I wonder how much a meat grinder would cost -

Carefull - as soon as you start grinding up everything you start to take away one of the main benefits of feeding Raw: the effort that it takes to tear, chew and knaw on the meat and bones!
This is what a) cleans their teeth and gums b) gives their digestive systems time to break down the food c) works their minds to make them "think" about how to eat what's in front of them.

It would take my dog no extra effort or time to eat a ground Raw patty than it was to eat a serving of kibble .

I know, I know...

I couldn't believe how fast they got through their meals tonight...chicken feet, 2 hearts and a chicken breast-under 2 minute (but at least they were chewing). When I was feeding them the meat patties I don't even think that they chewed.

I did a "poop patrol" in the yard this eve and it was WAY easier to find white poops amongst the fallen leaves !

Last fall (we were feeding kibble) is was like looking for a landmine

I looked. Very expensive. Especially one that would grind bone. Here's a link for some.. http://www.northcoastmarines.com/barf_hardware.htm

Very good point as well. Maybe I can fake the same type of benefits by giving them their nylabones to chew after they eat. Hmmmm....

PitBullLove, when you were feeding your dogs raw, what kind of raw were you feeding? I'm just curious if maybe there weren't getting too much bone and not enough meat...

Wolves don't eat the hide of their prey unless it's something small like a rabbit. They tear the hide out of the way so they can get to the internal organs. It's kind of like people who think that dogs need plant matter because "wolves eat the stomachs of their prey" which they don't. They shake out the contents and eat the stomach lining.. mmm tripe!

Well, it mostly seemed to happen when I gave them chicken backs. Maybe it was just when I gave them on their own sort of like a treat and not with a meal. Hmmmmmm..... I still do occasionally give chicken/turkey necks but not to Tank.

Chicken backs have little to no meat on them. Even chicken necks don't have much meat. Beef necks and pork necks are really meaty though.
Have you ever joined the yahoo raw feeding group? There are lots of people on there that have dogs with tummy troubles. You might be able to get some info on how to feed your dog (with the tummy upset) raw in a more controlled setting.

Anyways, it's just a suggestion!
