Remember when I asked about a slip knot in case of a dog fight with me attached to the other end of it?
It almost happened about 20 mins ago.
We were near the end of our walk and a young mom with her dog and kids were coming at a right angle to us and she made the dog sit but I could tell she was very nervous about her dog. I was making Ella sit at the street edge and I will admit, using this other dog as well in a way towards our training. The other gal and I exchanged words. She said her dog is "shy" which I recognized as "crazy dog waiting to happen" just like mine. I think I said that mine is the same way and I kind of got excited thinking we could be walking buddies, but it was kind of a tense situation and I wasn't sure how to start that conversation in the middle of it all.
Just as I started to cross the road, her dog broke loose of its head halty and charged us. Ella went into fight mode but I grabbed her up tight at the same time and the other dog was circling us and I was swinging Ella around like a Yo-yo so I could keep myself face to face with the dog and when the other dog came close I would kick out at it and the other gal is screaming the dog's name in that "its going to attack you" voice...
She managed to grab the dog and Ella sat down and I was so freakin excited that there is someone else in this town with a dog like mine. This poor woman was so upset and I was so excited.
She really felt bad and I was like it's totally ok. It's cool actually.
I walked Ella home and she got over the whole thing very quickly. I was proud of her. I then raced back with all of this web site info and the tv show info and my name in case they want to walk with me and start their dog on this training. We had a good talk about it all. I caught up to her back at the park. It's her mom's dog and is a rescue... Anyway, talk about the converted but I just recognized that dog as being very like Ella and know that this training will help.
That gal's sister was there too and I had passed her with the stroller earlier in our walk and she mentioned that her husband had said how well behaved MY dog was. YAY! People are noticing that she is good... you know... except when she sees other dogs sometimes.
