Also, if you're pinning correctly, the dog shouldn't be able to get its teeth on you. Perhaps the collar is too loose or the thumb position isn't exactly right. Thumbs should be right under the jawline and the collar should be tight enough that there is 1 or 2 finger spaces between the two loops on the Martingale collar when you pull it. Your dog should be able to breath but not move its head around to get its teeth on you. In Brad's episode on the dog Everest, he had the dogs head under total control so that when the dog attacked him, it couldn't actually bite him. (VERY dramatic to watch). in addition, make sure you're wearing long sleeves as well to minimize the scratching. Be prepared for your dog's reaction too.
I remember when I first pinned Casey, she did not like it at all and tried to get the best of me. I was surprised by her reaction but I didn't let go. She tried to bite me and scratch me but I was ready for her so I held on until she gave in. She still tries to win but her reaction isn't nearly as severe as it was the first time. She's figuring out that I'm the boss. This combined with the umbilical and setting boundaries for her and she's going to be a fantastic dog when she's full grown!
Good luck
