Unfortunatly, the best place to learn about pinning is the book. It goes in to detail with picture examples of the exercise. Typing it out here is prett yhard to do.

Trust me, for the price of the book, you will learn a lot!

Scott, I have the book, but find this the most difficult thing to do. I really hope there will be a video on "how to pin".

The book describes the pinning really well, the hard part is gauging your dog's reaction to it, as they do in so many ways. Some dogs go down right away and don't fight, some will move their heads back and forth and snap, some will lift their paws, some will just drop into dead weight, some will roll off to the side, some will rest on your leg, some will try to get away, some will try to stand up...there are so many ways they can react. Basically, for this exercise, don't start it unless you're prepared to finish it, and deal with any reaction your dog may have. If you're not comfortable doing it or don't think you understand how, then wait until Brad either posts a video or is able to show you how to do it at a future seminar. If you do try it, be sure to end it with you in control and wear long sleeves I learned the hard way....

It's basically another step in becoming alpha to your dog, along with umbilical, and the other things the book describes how to do. It's a little more up close and personal, and you are taking complete control over your dog. However, because all dogs will react differently, and some dogs may have more problems, dominance tendencies, or alpha issues than others, Brad says specifically in the book to not stop until you have won, and be prepared for different reactions. It's also a good way to gauge your success with your dog so far. If you are doing all the alpha exercises, and things are going really well, and your dog is respecting you, your dog should let you pin him/her without putting up a fuss. But if he/she still puts up a fuss, then you know you have a lot more work to do to become alpha. There are a couple episodes of the show (I think one is Jekyll and Hyde) where he pins a dog, and you can see what kind of reaction he got to it.

Try viewing the members only video on teaching lay down from Brad. At the end he shows how to hook your fingers under the dog's collar to make him laydown as he states it is a very similar technique to the pinning exercise. Hopes this helps, but you should really get his book as the reactions from dogs can be quite varied and you should know what you are doing while doing such an exercise.
