3 year old weiner dog goin nutz when left alone!!! Posted: 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
I have a 3 yr old dachaund and when he is left alone he goes crazy. he chews things, pees and poops on the carpet escapes from his crate or baby gated kitchen. I cant afford for more things to get wrecked and dont know what to do with him. I have thought about getting another crate and doing the crate training agian... we give him tons of attention when we are home and take him for lots of walks so its not because hes bored. Please help !!!

Maybe he is having separation anxiety like mine do. I reccommend getting a wire pet kennel. I use one for my 3 dogs and it works like a charm. They are so used to it now, when we go out we just tell them to go in their room and in they go. Before we did this, they destroyed my house. Now they are safe and cannot get into any more mischief.

Ill start off by saying, you have to train him so he knows its ok to be left home alone. I know some people have done such things as leaving for short periods of time, say 2-3 minutes and then coming back in, so your pup knows that when hes left home alone, you ARE going to come back for him, not leave forever. Once he gets better with you being gone for short periods of time, you can gradually increase the length of time you leave for. Also, make sure you don't make a giant deal and cuddle him when you come back in the house, because then he is getting away with the whining, destroying etc.

I agree with using the wire crate, also maybe put in a few of his toys, a blnaket or anything to make him more comfy.

One question i have, the statement
QUOTE:

this is probably going to sound rude and its not meant to, but why wouldn't he be bored when left alone if you are always giving him attention, lots of exercise etc. when your not home. He has no one to play with, no one to be with etc, and is just locked in a crate/kitchen. Just like if you were left at home all day with no tv, no radio, no dogs and no people around, you would eventually get bored as well. I understand what your saying is that you think hes tired when left home from the walks, however also depending on how long you leave for the dog can only nap for so long even if he is tired from the walks.
