Mya and Bailey's Progress Posted: 9 Months ago Karma: 10
Well first I would like to say THANK YOU to Brad and Scott. Brad for having this site and sharing his training techniques. And to Scott for keeping it running and also taking the time to help me with any problem I may have. Like trying to download Brad's book

It is nice to come on here and realize that there are others out there having the same problems that we are. I can ask questions and get feedback. And what can I say about the support you guys can give as well. There are a great group of you out there.

Well I just thought that I would share where I am at with our dogs. We have a 6 year old Sheperd and a 2 year old Golden. Mya had some previous training before we had gotten her at 9 months plus my husband had taken her threw training again. Bailey hadn't had any. We had gotten her at 9 weeks.

So Before Brad.........We had two dogs that would run past you on the stairs and going out the door. Their commands really weren't to bad, but yes I found that i had to repeat myself 2-3x's. They would stay on the rug if wet and I would catch them sneaking off. WALKING!! Well I'm ashamed to say this But I didn't enjoy our walks at all. I found myself not wanting to go with my husband and daughter and if I did I wouldn't have control of the leash. Or I would ask if we could go without the dogs. Mya would bark foolishly at other dogs then get Bailey going. And Bailey well she pulled loved to play tug of war with the leash and if Mya was beside her she would be jumping all over her and grabing her leash. Just not a pleasent walk at all. Trusting them out front off leash. Mya we could. Bailey NO WAY she was gone.

I have been at this I guess maybe a little over 4 weeks.

Sooo After Brad..................... I can now walk up the stairs ahead of them. Going out the door....What a big difference. I find if they need to go out when i go to the door they will back up and let me go out first. Commands well they will both sit on the snap when asked once, well if I can do the snap. Sometimes I can do and other times I can't Staying on the rug has most deffently gotten better...no more sneaking off. Our walks well I have to say I'm enjoying them so much more. I will even go by myself now with the two of them. Bailey isn't pulling and leaves the leash alone. But I have yet to come across another dog being walked so I'm still not sure where I'm at with that. I have even had Bailey off leash to out front and she has done well.

With me just getting in from a walk I just wanted to sit down and share this with you guys. I'm proud of my two girls. And Brad has made realize what potential these two really have and the bond I have established with them too. If someone had of told me this is where I would be 5 weeks ago I would have laughed at them.

Way to go Baily, Mya....and Patty!!! I love reading these stories because it keeps me motivated to keep working with Casey (now 51/2 months!).

You are right. This sight is amazing. The support we give each other, the support from Scott and the learnings we get from Brad enrich our experiences with our dogs.

Thanks for sharing your wins with us Patty.

Karen, Casey & Buster

I was thinking of Casey's Cronicles (sp??) the other day and was wondering how you are getting along.

Well I have to say it has been ALOT of work But that was my main goal to get out on walks with just the three of us. I still have work ahead of me but this site has built up my confidence.

Thanks Karen

Funny you should mention the Casey Chronicles! I had another one written but then decided to wait until after I went to Ottawa and then write another one sharing some of our Ottawa experience and the experience we've had since going to Ottawa. I'll hopefully have it done in a few days.

Thanks for remembering!

Thanks Laurence.

Don't get me wrong these two have showen improvement but I know I still have work ahead of me. I know these two can be better with the results they have showen me. So that is what I'm heading for.

If you remeber from the seminar I had asked about walking the two together. If anything, that was the goal that I wanted to reach. Well I have gotten there. I think with me it may have been a confidence issue. Now if I can meet up with another dog. That will be the true test I really can't beleave that I'm looking forward to having the two on leash and meeting up with another dog Before I would avoid it. The two of them together out weigh me by a few pounds.

Well I really think that you and your wife have done a great job with Jake as well. Keep up the great job you both are doing

That's really good to hear! The amount of success everyone is getting with the methods is amazing - and like you said, it's the things like going for a walk that are important, and all other trainers will just tell you to hold a treat at your side and the dog will walk at your heel... what a load of bull lol! Brad's methods actually show you how to show your dog the right way to walk - and it's made a huge difference with my walks aswell, I love walking with my dog now (before I used to let him lead, because it meant he wasn't under my feet, but now he walks by my side or just behind and he's great!)

We still all have some more to work towards, but hearing the successes you're having does certainly keep me motivated with my little one!

Keep up the good work Patty!

Glad to hear you to are enjoying your walks mightycrumbgirl. I really didn't think that I could. But I am. Better yet by myself. I just need to come across other dogs now to see how well I am doing. Why does it seem that when I couldn't care less if we meet up with another dog and we would came across them ALL the time. But now that I would like to I can't seem to find them

Oh and today I was out shoveling AGAIN and had both the dogs out there with me off leash. The funny thing was Bailey was going back and forth with me at first. I would shovel the snow with her on umbilicle when we first started doing the umbilicle . I had to laugh to myself. But I found that if they started to wonder farther then I liked I would say "yard" and they would come back.
