Our 7 mth old lab (going on 8 mths) sleeps on a pillow just outside our bedroom. Every morning at 5:30 am, she creeps into our bedroom and tries to wake us up. I'd like to either a) teach her that if I let her out go potty when she wakes me then I want to go back to bed for a little while longer without her bothering us again or b) teach her to wait for us until we say it's time to wake up.

Any suggestions on how to get my dog to learn to folow MY schedule?

LMAO too funny cause i was gonna ask that same question! Rowdie sleeps in a kennel with the door closed lately we have been trying her with the door open except that she comes aroud oh i duno 1am to "check" on me she pokes me in the nose with her nose i wake up and tell her to go back to bed and she does then gets up 10 mins before my alarm!! I don't mind cause if she has to go she has to go but is this also her "telling" me i'm on her schedule and thats that??? Sorry to chime in on your post but we are having a same situation!!

Hmm, I don't know how I managed to do it but Bayley knows not to bug me when I'm sleeping unless it's really desperate and she really needs to go out. Mind you she's 2 now and has no problem holding. I think it's just a consistency thing. The odd time she's asked to go out earlier than usual and when she comes back in, I just tell her to go back to bed and she does. Same thing when I get up early (5:00 am) for work she doesn't bother coming out of her crate anymore, I'm not even sure she really even wakes up, other than to lift her head and look around a bit. With a pup it may take a bit longer to get them used to holding a bit longer in the mornings.
