Howdy! I would like some help from all of you people who also love 6 legs to fitness! Im stuck over here in the UK with no chance of ever attending a class myself, so I was wondering if people who have attended a class could tell me of some of the exercises that you did. I want to start improving my umbilical work with my dog and thought it would be great for both of us to keep in even more shape I've tried some push ups and star jumps, going up/down stairs etc. What else could I be doing? Thanks Katie

Good for you for trying this! It is loads of fun, and the pain afterwards tells me how badly I needed a workout! Use whaterer you have around in your neighborhood. We do lots and lots of squats, and lunges and quite often hover in a squat while pup is doing his best to pull you over. Lots of leap frogs across the park, forwards and back. Jogging forwards and back. Stairs - one, two, three at a time. Push ups and tricep dips off a wall or bench with hands at varying widths - lots of abs, core strengthening, and stretching. Anything that hurts really. Ah yes, my personal favorite, running up the hill gackwards. Have fun, and use your imagination, and if you can find someone to yell at you while you do it for an hour, that helps too! Cheers Leah

Every obstacle in the park and along your streets are fun to go around or over. We also did some street safety and when i walk Ella I will cross the road about a 50 times back and forth using the method that includes (after looking for cars) a quick sprint onto the road and walk and quick sprint off of the road. Then we just do it back and forth up and down the block. Getting two things accomplished with that one. Do you use kids' playground equipment? Have you tried putting up posters and see if you can get a group together there who would have the same philosophy on training? It is definitely way more fun when there are others! Good for you for doing it!!!!

The more the Merrier. A group situation also helps teach patience. My dog is always wanting to play with the others, so hovering in a squat with a 95 pound dog pulling at the waist is a real challege for the old core stabilizing muscles!
Around here, kids playgrounds are off limits for dogs, and rightly so, so Brad steers clear, but we make use of benches, railings, retaining walls, stairs.... I was all ready to attend the class on thursday, and then it snowed!! Cancelled.

I made up my own little 6 Legs to Fitness routine, based on the exercises Leah wrote about. I ran (OK, walked kind of briskly) up and down a hill, ran around trees, walking lunges, push-ups against trees, tricep dips using picnic tables, and, I stole this one from an episode of x-weighted, lifted the end of a picnic table. Who needs to spend money on a gym when all this stuff is available for free in the great outdoors??? I'm still sore two days later, and I only lasted about 20 minutes! I'd hate to see what I'd be like after an hour of Brad's class. Shiloh would have to carry me home! Thanks for the suggestions Leah!

Hey All, my husband and I are first time dog owners with a 10 month old puppy - we're hoping to make it out too 6 legs to fitness (I'm a runner, he's a cyclist...so why not include our dog in our active pursuits)? Any thoughts? Is he too young? He likes to play with other dogs and we're working on him not barking in order to play but sometimes he still does. Will it be too disruptive to the class? What else can we expect?
Oh, and last question, anyone going tomorrow night?
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated! I think Brad's training techniques are great.

Hello Shannon R.! I have attended a few 6 Legs classes and all that is required is a great attitude and a willingness to push yourself to do your best. I have seen dogs of all ages and sizes at these classes, including young pups less than 6 months. The dogs aren't working as hard as the humans, they seem to enjoy looking at their owner making fools of themselves The dogs are kept on umbilical during the class, so they don't get to socialize as much as they would on a walk, sometimes though at the end there will be opportunities to let them offleash as we walk back to our cars. I have definitely gotten great workouts out of these classes. So I am planning to attend the classes this week as well.
