All night whining in crate Posted: 5 Months, 2 Weeks ago Karma: 0
Just got Truckie our Rotti Husky cross from the Spca, he is over a year old. We cant trust him with the cats yet and if i dont crate him he tries to beat the door down. so anyways i make him go to bed at night in a crate, he hates it, whines ALL night and tries to tear the walls down! how do i stop this behaviour, i thought it would settle down after a couple weeks but it hasnt in fact its like its getting worse! i dont go in or talk to him at all if he is yelling, so he isnt getting any positive rienforcment to cry. has anyone had this problem and what on earth can i do!? (i have been feeding him in there to try and get him used to it as well) Nothings working and im going crazy from lack of sleep! Thank you!

hmmm, that is a tough one!

do you think having a radio(talk radio) on would help him at all?

hopefully some of the more experienced people on here will help you out with advice!

Where is the crate located, perhaps you would have better luck if the crate was beside the bed. You could also try working on " no noise".

Just wondering if you've tried putting him in the crate during the day while you're walking around for 5 minutes intervals and
gradually increasing it.
Treats and food in the crate to help him associate good times with his crate. Also, don't ever use it
as a punishment... =) Hopefully some of this helps. Good luck!

Its in the computer room, my boyfriend and i dont really want him in the bedroom with us as the cats sleep with us and he is still having problems with the cats, i have been putting him in his crate for intervals and giving him a few treats. he eats them then whines. ill give the radio a try tho and see how that goes and ill keep trying the no noise.

When we first got our dog Mason we were told he loved the crate. So we went out and bought a big one. For the first few weeks all he did was whine and then progress to barking. We started leaving the little tv on for him next to the crate and then put a blanket over the top. Our bedroom is too small or else I would have put the crate in there.

Thankfully we don't use it anymore. Both Daisy and Mason have their own beds in our bedroom and in the living room. The crate is now used to store the dog kibble.
