I was moved by it. It goes to show that disability does not stand in the way.

We did no umbilicle with Mable. we focused on walking through her, interrupting her and of course so much socialization. Thanks for all your kind words and encouragement. Mable is truly a changed dog

I'm not sure umbilical would be a good tool in that case. Do the gals come on here? Maybe ?? Christine could tell us.

What I'd like to know is a behind the scenes kind of thing. How long did Brad work with them for? How long did it take for the transformation? What other tools/techniques were used?

A half hour is just not long enough for the show!!!! It needs to be an hour.

AND, whose dog was Kia? Beautiful dog. Sorry whoever lost her.

Christine
So glad you joined us mere mortals.
I don't think any of the other "stars" on the show have come on here.
If you've read some of the other posts you'll see a lot of us have had problems with our dogs too, but we don't get a personal visit from Brad to help us.
If you don't mind, I'm sure a lot of people have a lot of questions. For instance, how long did it take from when Mable was dragging you on the ground until she was a "good" girl?

Hey Christine !
Really nice to hear from you!
When I saw Mabel drag you accross the lawn and your roomate practically get pulled off her feet, I thought - Hey ! Keymo could SO do that to me.
It's very hard to control a dog who is so strong!

Learning Brad's techniques has given me the tools to keep him under control.
I cheered when I saw the show's point where Brad watched you on surveillance camera and Mabel was sitting on a snap !
Way to go !

Thanks for the visit ! Hope you'll be a regular and keep us all up to date with "Mabel updates"

Christine,

It is so wonderful to see you! A real star on the forum! You and Laurie did an AWESOME job with Mabel, and I'm so glad to hear that things are going great for all of you!!!

While I don't have a disability, I too have been dragged by my dog when she was only 9 months old ... she'd wrapped the leash around my ankle, bam, down I went, and I ended up with a partially torn achilles! Not a pleasant experience!

These big dogs are certainly strong! BUT ... not as strong as you and your roommate. The inner strength that your portrayed was so powerful, the audience was captured instantly! No wonder Mabel's such a great dog now, look at her mommy - the greatest Alpha!!!

Stand strong, and be so very proud of yourself!

Take care, and hope to see you more often on the site!

Marion

This episode has me confused now. Not hard to do.
Everything I've read points to the umbillicle training being the cornerstone of Brad's methods,

It is, but there are other ways of being alpha as well, and for this particular episode, walking through the dog and interruption like Christine mentioned are two important parts of it as well.

Great picture Christine, give Mable a belly rub for us all!

Christine, I am not as disabled as you are, and I have been dragged down the street and had a dislocated shoulder and broken fingers from my rottie before we got him trained. Now we are training our second dog using Brad's techniques. She is doing well and the last thing was socialization which I have been very nervous of. Watching this episode has given me the confidence to try out a doggie daycare.
Thanks!!
