Good point Tracy
I think I might be starting to understand. To me a dog's a dog.
Only going to use a Husky for example, so don't anyone get uppity.
Question. My Raw fed Husky is pulling on his prong collar when he sees a cat.
Where does it get posted. Raw? Husky? Umbillicle? Aggressive? Prey drive?
An over exaggeration but it might make a point.
I say stick to the park.

Why not just make a breed thread in the Park (or where it fits) if you're curious about a breed? Thats what its there for to ask questions you're still unsure about or to make conversation. I have to agree that theres alot of info on dog breeds when searching forums and the internet in general. There are so many breeds, wouldn't it take up alot of resources for the site?

I would think too that if someone thinks they like a specific breed and is still a little bit hesitant, that it would be better for that person to physically associate with the breed. Like going to the SPCA, a breeder (you dont have to buy a dog, but they can still be interacted with), rescues, dog parks, training facilities, etc. You never stop learning, mentally of physically with an animal.

What about a category for the group? Working, herding, sporting, hound, etc? Some behaviours are more dominant/prevalent in certain groups. I'm sure people with hounds have more issues with sniffing than those in the herding group. For me understanding Emmy's drives from the herding group have been helpful. Just a thought..,.

That's a good idea as well. For the senitive ones, this may also seem elitist; singling out owners with non-classed skills. Also, there is also soo much of this information on the internet.
The sense behind all of this is to not clog 'the park' with breed specific chit-chat. It would be a category for people to chat about their experiences with certain 'behaviors'.
I have to say, I really can't believe how sensitive some people have taken this idea.
For example, I am still not quite yet on the raw food plan, but a lot of people are. I am not offended that there is a crazed category on diet; being raw, just because it's not the norm. As there are a lot of people who own mixed breeds(and behavior questions), there is equally the same amount of owners with a pure breed and a question about a specific behavior.
A place to chat about behavioral experiences.
(I was thinking that if you have never experienced raising or dealing with a pure breed dog, you may never realize the true nature of breed specific behavior. just a thought)

I didn't think I was being sensitive.
I'm not against the idea at all. Just a little confused.
This is my understanding of the way things work now.
"Duke eats raw" goes under discussions.
"Duke eats raw" also goes in the category section under "diet"
So if there was breed specific wouldn't it go like this.
"Abby is a GSD" goes under discussions.
"Abby is a GSD" would also go under "Purebred GSD" or whatever it's called.
I never go to the categories, just read the posts in the park.
If I'm wrong on this can someone explain.
Don't see a big deal one way or the other.

I found this interesting; it is the introductory line under the Synergy book page.
"If you are patient, learning will be accomplished. Each breed is different and each dog within the breed has its own personality."

Oh the MUTT category...

Scout was a black lab/ border collie cross.

1. She was terrified of live stock as a pup (I got her on a goat farm and she was the same size as the kids and running FROM them) but at age two I watched her circle up a small herd of cows and the look on her face told me she had no idea why she felt compelled to do such a crazy thing but she loved it - hello herder instinct?

2. She barfed and went all wobbly after her first canoe ride down a magnificent set of rapids and it took YEARS to convince her that swimming was an ideal activity beyond paw wading - so much for being a lab

Then there's my gorgeous Rez special here...
Who called it the shephusky?

But who knows!!! The SPCA thought she probably has some heeler in her too ... but I think I'd like to make up a category for her because she is like no animal I have ever met.
Cuckoo for Cocoapuffs breed maybe.
The topic is still fun to pontificate (which I just looked up and it means "to speak DOGmatically or pompously" about something )

I just think that its not about being sensitive i own a Pure Bred Jack Russel Terrier and a Pure Bred MUTT LMAO (Golden X that is black) so to me it makes No difference i just dont think there needs to be a \\\"specific\\\" catagory for \\\"specific\\\" breeds. there are Soooooooo Many breeds for people to post about i have for example heard people post about the following:
German Short Hair Pointers
Huskies
Jack Russels
Beagles Boxers
Rottie\\\'s
ect ect
so to make it fair to everyone how do we make specific catagories for every breed?? there are just too many and where do the questions about other specific breeds go?? Im not saying anyone is wrong and not saying it shouldnt be done let the masses be heard then make the decision. I think posting it in the park is just fine its the same thing just dont read every post. There are things that go with breeds like jumping and digging Siberians but those are the most commonly known traits amongst that breed. But i do know Brad doesnt like breed generalizations like all rotties and pits are bad ( i dont believe this but some people do ) that is the wrong attitude so its a touchy subject cause that is the way it could go and every dog is different!!! And where do the people with the LhasaPoo\'s, Labradoodles,ShepHuskies and Maltipoo\'s post??

Jack Russels would be nice However doesnt Brad himself say not to catagorize breeds?? A dog is a dog regardeless of breeds?? also wouldnt that make people with mix breeds feel kind of left out?? just a thought i may be wrong.

I have a mixed breed as well and while a dog is a dog some breeds do have certain quirks that others do not, huskies howling and being quite vocal for example. I think it would be interesting just to see which breed is inspiring some of the little quirks Willow has, such as her licking obsession, lol.
