I heard of the cases with Laurie Mathiason, however I'm not sure if this has ever happend in dogs, that beng said my dog is in pain and cannot walk properly but his mind is still sound and so I want to research all I can instead of laying him to rest we are willing to try anything to help him get better and walk properly and be able to get him self around !!!

Look for a wholistic vet- they will likely have a contact for a canine chiropractor. Another good alternative is an acupuncturist. But an x-ray will likely be needed to correctly diagnose the exact cause of the pain. Good luck!

Sounds like this is getting expensive. Find a vet you trust, holistic maybe, and stick with him/her. If the vet's not sure whats wrong, you could spend a lot of time looking around getting different opinions.
If the vet gives you advice that YOU think makes sense, go with it. A lot of vets have their own little circle of experts that they deal with, such as a chiropractor, pharmacist etc.
Good Luck.

Thanks Emmydawg and DukesDad

Yeah that is what we were thinking our vet said xrays (which we will be doing) and looking into a chiropractor or accupuncturist. We are just hoping to get this poor man back on his feet and exercising again (its been a month the vet made him stay quiet!!) Its not so much pain that is the issue it doesnt seem to be that painful he doesnt let out a sound when his legs give out he just becomes wobbly and goes splayed out! I read online that the cost for chiropractors are $50 to $100 a visit (YIKES) so we will be checking it out

anyone ever used a doggy chiropractor???

Hi... I have used a Animal Chiropractor....

I have used it on my dog as well as horse I used to have.
Worked wonders... sometimes like in humans.. there is a vertebrate out of alignment or a pinched nerve.
In humans/horses/dogs a missaligned vertebrate can become a source or very serious muscular imbalances and result in life long issues.

For example : My horse would go in the mud and slip and throw something out of alignment. As a result the left hind leg would lame.
This was due to a pinched nerve and was easily corrected with an ajustment.

Also, something that you may want to try is aquatic rehabilitation. Swiming or walking on a treadmill in the water to help with any compression issues your dog may have and at the same time strengthen the muscle.

Laying him down frequently, if he was previously active will cause muscular atrophy and then become and larger problem.
As scar tissue can build up around the area in question.

If I were you I would find a good animal chiro... ask for references and CALL them.
Its worth the money, because you may only need one or two sessions.
Then keep you eye on it and if it seems to happen again... go back for another session....

Keep me posted and if you have any additional questions, feel free to ask!

Hope this helps!

I'm so glad you found my information helpful.
That is so awsome that your vet has a pool and aquatic equipment. Thats a huge advantage. (My pool is almost an hour away)

Please please keep me posted on your progress.... I am sure that everything will work out with the right treatment.
