Vet says every three months. I only do it once a year.
What's the vote on here? New vet suggested that because I feed raw, it is of utmost importance to deworm every three.

I don't worry about feeding raw and Bayley getting worms. Cattle are dewormed regularly otherwise they wouldn't be able to gain the weight they need for slaughter. I know parasites are more common in fish as they aren't wormed. Bayley doesn't really like raw fish so I don't bother feeding it.

She's on Heartgard too which contains Ivermectin, also used on horses and cattle and since she's on that 6 months of the year, I don't really worry about worms. Last year I had the vet do a fecal on her and there was nothing. I always take a quick check of her poop when I pick up too. Advantage too will help control the parasites that fleas carry so she's protected both ways as she doesn't get bitten, no bites from fleas no worms. She's the only dog that poops in her yard so no contamination from other dogs there either.

I would have the vet do a fecal before I'd let them just dose the dog with wormer. Every 3 months is a bit extreme! If the dog looks healthy, shiny coat, good weight and energy then I wouldn't worry. Heck people probably have more parasites than the average dog these days!!

If you're worried though freeze the meat for a while before feeding it.

I would suggest doing fecal tests more frequently, then worm from there depending on the results. Just because you can't 'see' the worms doesn't mean there are no traces. Some dogs may be carriers and unknowningly infected large areas with their poop. Parasites like coccicidia and giardia can survive extreme cold and heat it's important to check regularly. Vets have a legal obligation to advise on vaccinations and worming because if an issue arises (bite incident, public health gets involved, etc), not only the dog owner, but the vet, may be liable.
