So, I just saw tonight's episode, and what I don't understand is why there was no reference to getting the dogs in this family fixed i.e. spayed and neutered, not just behaviourly adjusted?? Brad made his off-hand comment about "puppies having puppies" but that was as far as it went... there was lots of time devoted to how they shouldn't be adding frogs to the mix, but nothing about preventing more puppies. It certainly looked to me in the final frames that the young dog (Ylad?) was still intact....Yikes!

I was thinking the same thing but i guess maybe it was addressed in private??? Not everyone beleives in spaying and neutering and you can tell them till your blue in the face and they will keep letting it happen!! Maybe the whole reason they got the male was to breed????

I totally agree that neutering/spaying should have been mentioned on air. There are tonnes and tonnes of people out there that STILL don't get it that shelters and rescues are FULL of unwanted dogs (and cats) that are the result of "but shouldn't our dog have just one litter before she's/he's fixed?" or "it'll be so good for the kids to see the miracle of birth"...ugh I just hope that it was addressed off camera (and I'm sure it was), maybe next time ('cause you know the stiuation is out there) it will be...

This is exactly the reason why Lindy was spayed this past Friday. I didn't want her to be a puppy having puppies. Not when there are so many dogs and puppies already in the animal shelters.
I personally would have liked to have heard Brad mention it, even if it wasn't to the family but to the viewing audience when he mentioned that it was a "puppy having puppies." Maybe it was mentioned and cut or Brad just didn't mention it because he had his reasons...

I liked the episode, and feel that Brad did a great job (as usual), but I felt like he spent more time on the family than the dogs ... I recognize that we need to train the owners first before the dogs can be trained, but I would have liked to see "on film" how the family worked with the dogs.

While I agree a bit with this, I think that family was out of control!!!! So many things were wrong with that family, I think it was needed that he spent that much time working with them.

While I agree a bit with this, I think that family was out of control!!!! So many things were wrong with that family, I think it was needed that he spent that much time working with them. that family was a poster family for why NOT to get a dog. i kept getting more and more angry watching it, but i was so pleased at how much Brad helped them, because they needed it (the dogs AND the family). i am sure spaying and neutering were mentioned by Brad. my biggest fear is that the family ended up keeping one or more of the pups and it simply added to more kaos. i would LOVE to get an update on how this family is doing now, as i noticed it was summer when this was filmed. hopefully Brad can chime in and let us know if there is an update...and Brad, do you keep in touch with your former clients from the show? I agree the family had major issues, and I was really glad to see Brad bring in a professional counsellor. One of my pet peeves are show hosts that try to be experts in things outside their realm (like Dr. Phil giving dog advice--for a young couple expecting a baby whose dogs were soiling in the house his advice: build a fence and move the dogs out to live in the yard!). So Kudos to Brad for knowing when a situation is beyond his scope! But one issue clearly within Brad's scope is "responsible dog ownership" which INCLUDES not allowing puppies to have puppies. Sure, they were in the situation before he got there, but it is a golden opportunity to educate the viewing public as well as this particular family--neuter the male dog immediately and mention that the female is going to be spayed as soon as the pups are weaned...problem solved. Instead we get lots of concern over returning a couple of frogs to the pond.... And no mention at all of what the plan is for all these puppies; hopefully they won't get dumped at the pond too...

I missed the first 5 min so I'm not sure if anything was mentioned there or not, but I thought that the episode got across the point about puppies having puppies without really talking about the spay/neuter aspect. Obviously everyone here got the point watching the episode that it was a bad thing that their dog was having puppies, but without knowing any back story about it, I wouldn't want to make too harsh a comment on it. It could have been many factors, but bottom line, it happened, and Brad gave them the tools to deal with it. I actually kind of like that the spaying/neutering aspect wasn't mentioned, because there were so many other important things going on that it would have been too bad if that became the focus, since the dog was pregnant and nothing could really change that part. If you guys remember though, back to season one I think, there was an episode with a lady that was considering breeding her dog, and her and Brad had it out over that. All in all, great episode, and hopefully the people watching it can learn something!
