What do you do when faced with a dog who is less than friendly to your dogs?

We have a great offleash park here, unfortunately we don't feel comfortable allowing our dogs to be off leash, because of the several instances we've had unleashed dogs come up and provoke. We don't even feel comfortable going there anymore, and will only go if we know it's not busy. I've got a friend with dogs, who also quit taking her dogs for the same reasons. Too many offleash, poor mannered dogs with no owners in sight, usually.

What do you do in these cases? Would you just avoid the dog park like we have been? It's just too bad it is the only dog park we have.

That's a tough one. It's why I quit going to the one off leash park in High River. A malimut there was attacking several dogs- I met more than one of us who are now dealing with fear reactive dogs because of the one aggresive dog.

Not sure what to say. Can you contact the town bylaw officers and have them start coming by more often? If you can get licence plates of the offenders' owners they should be able to start following up. They are supposed to help in that area.

If there are the same couple of dogs causing problems can you go without your dog some day and address the owners about muzzling their dogs while at the park for the safety of the others? Probably won't work but at least they'd know other people aren't too happy about them letting their dogs run amok. Get a bit of peer pressure going.

Good luck and let us know what happens. Where are you?
