Part of it is keeping Loki calm and in a Sit - Stay. The other part is just little Sophia, being a toddler.
I had a dayhome with mostly toddlers. 99% of the time I kept them and the dogs seperate, however when I just had one child a day, I'd bring one dog out at a time and they could say hi and give hugs, etc.
Unless kids are raised around dogs all day, they're a little skitterish, especially of big dogs, or quick dogs. The key is to let little Sophia initiate contact on her own, and let her be only as interested as she wants. If she walks up to Loki, but doesn't want to come close, that's OK. The calmer Loki is, the better, usually. And if Sophia walks up to Loki before Loki can walk up to her, great.
Don't force it, or think you're doing anything wrong if the little one stays a little shy. It's normal. I've had kids in my house who have dogs at home, who are still unsure of my dogs because they're different.
It's got to be slightly intimidating to only be 2 feet tall, and unsteady on your feet, with a big furrball hovering around you! She'll come around in time
