Oh Wendy, Dale told me.
How horrible that must have been for everyone. I can only say now that I think you are right, Coco is breed specific; she only likes huskies....lol
Okay, OR, due to her insecurities, she will take advantage of the same energy and lash out.

I hope we can continue to use your place to help her get over it...it's so frustrating. But I guess just like kids it doesn't change overnight. I just walked her and she was so good.
we walked past a barking dog...but she couldn't see it and she was fine.

frustrated in Ottawa!

Holy cow they can have some kind of attitude can't they?
One step forward, one step back.

Maybe Cocoa's wanting to get to see Steele is a sign?
She WANTS to go and see another dog? Doesn't this sound "strange" for a dog that doesn't feel comfortable around other dogs?
Sounds like progress to me - just displayed in an improper behaviour

Glad to know the "meeting" was with an experienced "Cocoa" lover.

I wonder if Cocoa had met Roxy ( the dog she went after at the Daycare if that would have made a difference. Maybe she feels anywhere near our home is her territory. After all she has marked this area. She knows the Daycare is not her territory. hmmm

Okay so, next social is at your place, hahaha. What will Cocoa think then?
Wendy, what are the possibilities, knowing Cocoa's parents, that there may be a medical issue? It came to mind when thinking about the whole 1.5 year old story of Cocoa's.
First alarm is that it's very weird for her mom and mom's sister to attack her as a puppy.
Secondly, Cocoa comes across as very insecure and defensive around other dogs.
I realize it's not something anyone wants to think about, but, you can never really tell where these things are coming from.

LOl and my Rottie...it would be a nut house for sure!! Medical Issue? Like what? I know her mom was a puppy when she had her and that her father and grandfather are the same dog. As well that her Mom attacked her the last time she was there...the parents weren't walked so I can see them being angry dogs just because of that. Perhaps she needs more exercise than I have been giving her..more stimulation.

Just a thought.

Here's a thought: anything wrong with her eyesight?
THAT would surely make a dog uncomfortable because it couldn't see the other dogs approaching, etc.
It would also explain why another dog, like a parent would want to "push" the dog away. Mothers in the animal world tend to not be bothered and try to push away a "baby" that has medical issues.

I know a cat that will look right in your direction as if it's looking at you, but upon closer inspection of the cat, you realize that the cat isn't looking RIGHT at you, like making eye contact.
It's a stray, and there's something wrong it's eyesight. Maybe an infection at some time that caused a problem and because it's a stray, it never got medical attention.
You'd never think the cat had an eye problem unless you REALLY paid attention to that area specifically, over & over again.

I dont think it's here eyesight. She did see a vet a few times and all was Ok and also she catches flies and other bugs and eats them. Thanks for the idea though. He mother turn on her when she was about 6 months old...she had already left mom's home for a couple of months.

Wen - how old was Cocoa when you got her? I've read that she was attacked by her mother and sister? Was this before you got her?
If so, maybe she was really coddled by the breeder/owner, and that made her so insecure.

Re:OTTAWA DOG SOCIAL Posted: 4 Months ago Karma: 5
I don't think she was coddled. They still had her brother there when I got her and Rebeckah was friends with their son so we had been there often. She was about 3.5 months old when we got her. I think it's more socialization and bored.

thanks
