I am in the process of cutting the dogs nails, but I am finding the nail clippers I have are dull. So I guess I will be shopping for new ones. What brand or type do you all find the easiest to use? I sometimes hit the quik of the nail and they start to bleed, what do you use to stop the bleeding? Thanks for any advice.

You can use Styptic Powder to stop the bleeding. It is an antiseptic clotting agent. You can find it at any pet supply retailer. Just fill a bowl and dip your dog's paw in it.
Hope this help's.

I have scissor type nail clippers that have a guard on them but for me to clip Bayley's nails it's a major battle...

My guys don't really mind when I do their nails, that is until I hit the quik, and with the nail clippers that I have, it's really hard to see how much of the tip I am cutting off, especially with the hairy toes. Then I feel so guilty for having made them bleed...good thing that they forgive me later.

There are new ones out there that have some sort of sensor that lets you know when you're getting too close to the quick. I have no idea how much they are or which stores carry them but seems like a pretty good idea. You can probably google them.

My vet recommended a dremel. I guess the heat from the filing will cauterize the blood if you hit the quick. We tried to use it on our dog but she doesn't like the vibrating so we bring her somewhere to get them done the old fashioned way because with her dark nails I'm scared of hitting the quick.

Hi My Juno hates having her nails cut! My groomer advised me to practice everyday pretending to cut the nails. Its been 3 weeks and it has helped a lot! It is now to cut Juno's nails and she was much better. I thought this tip might help you.

Also, clip them after a long walk...when dogs are tired they are easier to work with.
