pinning puppy with hip dysplasia Posted: 9 Months, 3 Weeks ago

Hi. I have a question on pinning. I unfortunately do not have Brad's book as of yet. High Speed internet is unbelievably not available where I live and it would take forever to load his book. I am waiting for a print version or may see if I can get it in CD. My question is; My 11 month old lab/poodle cross has hip dysplasia and therefore I do not want to hurt him in the pinning process. I understand that alot of force is not used, but wonder if doing the pinning process in a very very slow and gentle manner is effective? And after you have a dog pinned and he is not fighting back, do you walk away, or do you bring them up to sitting?

Yes, at times he challenges me for dominance and a stare definately would not work.

i am no expert but maybe you could one hand under the belly and one hand on the coller and take most of the wight of the back legsand roll him on his side witch is an alpha roll or i have seen brad take hold of the coller,a hand on each side of the dogs head and pull down to make the dog go in the down this should never hurt the dog as you only pull a litter bit harder than the dog is. i would also wait to see what other answers you get as i said i am no expert on this but it gives you something to think about

The pinning you are trying is Not the pinning done in the book. I just typed out the method in the book but could not in good conscience post it without you being fully aware of what you are doing. If done improperly, you or your dog, or both could be seriously harmed. It is not how to pin your dog in the submissive position in some backyard wrestling match. Find a way to get the book from someone with highspeed. Or set your computer to download it over night. If I recall it is only 6.3 mb which even with a slow connection shouldn't take more than a couple of hours.

Thank you for your concern and suggestions,- but maybe I did not word my post properly, but I am NOT in a backyard wrestling match with him. He does not try and bite at me, scratch me, etc. when I am pulling him down. I am just wondering if gently putting him down and then releasing him is effective, )and I am doing so in the most gentle way so as not to hurt him.) I perhaps should not use the term PINNING, as you said this technique is not what is in the book - And yes I do plan on getting the book in someway.
