it all depends on the situation and the dog. One thing many people don't understand is, not all dogs can be fixed or retrained. Not all situations are the same, for instance - One technique may work for one dog, and one may not. There have been a lot of questions from people we have received lately regarding dogs biting, and every answer has been different. There is no way to diagnose a problem, in the forums or even over the phone. Brad will tell people he is unable to help them, simply because he is not able to witness the problem first hand.

Sometimes, its not the dogs fault, its the owners that have failed the dog. 2 episodes ago (at least aired here in Canada) was one with little children - the dog was treat trained.. Brad throw a bunch of children's crackers and dog treats on a table, and asked if there was a difference in the size, shape and color of the treats. We (as humans) know there is a difference, but when you treat train a dog, it thinks everything like that is a treat. So when your toddler is running around with a cracker in its hand the dog gets excited and nips for it. Is it the dogs fault, or the owners!

So do you get rid of the dog? or stop giving it treats?

I saw that episode about the treats looking like they could be for humans or dogs.

I don't have kids, but it was an eye opener. Not something I ever thought about. That people are setting their dogs up for failure by using treats. Thankfully, my dog LOVES praise, so cutting out treats won't be difficult.

I've been watching the show for some time and was really surprised by this episode -- it was good to see all the right things we should do when bringing a puppy home and it actually introduced the concept that perhaps some dogs aren't meant for certain families.

I ended up finding and joining the website as I wanted to find out what happened to Everest, the show just seemed incomplete without telling us. So please, someone please give us an update! I hope he found the right family.

I thought this was a great episode Brad didn't fly in there like a superhero and fix the dog. It was brutally honest and sad. I too wonder what ever became of poor Everest.
I personally couldn't imagine living with a dog that I was scared might bite scary.

I too wonder what happened with Everest. Maybe he was put to sleep? Many shelters now behaviour test their dogs and ones with severe problems often get put down. It is about being responsible to the community. They obviously do not want to have the dog come back to them (or worse-need to put the dog down during a stressful situation) because it hurt someone or another animal. Yes we all have a part to play in being responsible dog owners. I am not saying that Everest should be put down, but that maybe this is what happened to him. All I am going on is what I saw on TV, but it did sound like Everest was a serious danger with potential to cause serious harm. Even if he did go to a home with no children or pets, what is to stop him from encountering these situations in parks or while in public?

If Everest did find a new home I hope he is with a cautious owner who can work with him. This is a bit off topic, but a few days ago I had an incident with a DA (dog aggressive) dog in the park. The owner was throwing a ball at his dog (his dog was off leash), and my dog approached. The owner was a complete asshole and had the audacity to tell me I should ask him before I let my dog off leash at the park. My dog was attacked by his dog. I quickly reminded him that the park is a PUBLIC space, and that reality is that his dog will be approached by others in the park. I ended up leaving and paid my vet bill myself. I have spoken to other owners who use that park and none seem to be too fond of that dog being in the park because of the DA.

What I am saying is I hope Everest's new owner(s) take proper precautions with him and don't just let him run free like the DA dog I met in the park. One of my dogs is DA (with strange dogs) and I would never allow her to run free in the park. When I do take her she remains on leash and muzzled.

I've been reading through ALL the posts (its taking some time LOL) and I came across this one.

I have two questions:

1 - What happened to Everest?????

2 - Anyone know where / how I can see this episode (i.e. is it available on line somewhere?) I've checked out Slice and can't find it there.

Thanks,

Marion

I don't think that question can be answered, unless it comes from the owner themselves. Confidentiality type stuff....definitely a lot you can learn from that episode though. I'd like to stay positive and hope they found a nice safe home for Everest where he could get the help he needed.
