The Pattison Canine Rescue Team was formed to be an elite squad in canine rescue and behaviour assessment for dogs in states of distress and emergency. The team specializes in leadership to volunteer personnel in disaster zones. In 2005, Hurricane Katrina had devastating effects on several communities. Brad led his team down to New Orleans to help manage and asses hundreds of dogs affected by Hurricane Katrina. During their time there, the team was nicknamed “Ballet Dog Rescuers”. With their specialized training and studies of canine language, this opened the door of communication with dogs that were in this stressful environment. The rescue mission did not include loop poles or any protective gear. Communicating to the dogs on their terms, ensuring not to raise the already high anxiety levels, using only martingale collars, 6 foot leashes, and some food were the successful tools the Pattison Canine Rescue Team used to help save over 200 hundred dogs.
