We’ve been watching your show for the last few months and are trying to use a few of your techniques on our Wheaten Terrier and Greyhound. Both of our dogs do well with being umbilical corded in the house; however, we are wondering how to handle our Wheaten on walks. He fixates on other dogs even at some distance away and lunges to greet them as they near. We try to redirect his attention early but it never lasts. He is not aggressive in any way, just extremely friendly and wanting to say hi. Unfortunately, we live in a city without a dog park so socializing him with other dogs is a bit difficult (other than on our walks). Any suggestions? When approaching another owner and their dog, greet them verbally, even from a distance, this way your dog will know that you are in control of the greeting. To do a proper greeting, you have to take your dog to greet other dogs. The use of a martingale style collar will facilitate your taking control of the dog. |
