I am not a big believer in disciplining dogs but when it is required it must be done. Understand how dog discipline: is very quick and done with precision.

When a dog is barking out of control, the dog may need a discipline if the dog does not stop. If you do not want to discipline the dog, then it is very important to interrupt the dog abruptly and take full control of the situation.
If you know that the dog will bark at the doorbell, then have the dog on leash and take control of the dog by giving the leash a quick pull with the Hustle Up ™collar attached. The interruption needs to be fast and sharp. It is not necessary to give a ‘hard’ correction, as long as it is hard enough to get the dogs attention. This is not a quick-fix. I am presently working with a schnauzer who has made the barking at the door a learned behavior. To fix this the family needs to be on board with consistency and perseverance.
Quick fixes in many cases are not real. Time, practice and patience are all ingredients.

If you can understand why your dog barks, you may realize it is because of the lack of stimulation, the dog feels that you are not able to control a situation, the dog needs to socialize or dog is not confident. There are many other reasons and I will continue with this topic in the future.
