Too Much Love….

A balance should be found with your dog for what is enough and what is too much touch.

In the years that I have been teaching people and dogs, I have come to recognize that the humans need for touch is very big. Often, I see dogs become the touch pad for many people and therefore the dog becomes the security blanket for companionship.

Dogs do not require as much petting and touch as humans do.

Dogs that are cuddled, picked up, spooned with in bed and share a pillow, often exhibit insecurities and territorial aggression. These changes in behavior often occur without the owner knowing. If the change is noted, many dog owners will dismiss the change and then quite often the dog lashes out and causes bodily harm.

Unfortunately many people forget that a dog is an ANIMAL, not a pet or child.

Our greed to fulfill our need of touch should not be lived through a dog, nor should we have a dog to fulfill this requirement. Is it really fair for the dog to be burdened by our weakness?

Until people change their behavior, we will continue to see an increase in dog attacks towards the owner, a family member or close friends.
