If you live anywhere that gets snow, you will want to be sure to take caution when taking your dog out.
Many roads and sidewalks are sprinkled or even covered with salt to reduce ice build up. This is great, except, it can pose a danger to our four legged friends.

If the salt stays on the pads of the dogs’ paw or in between its toes, more than likely, your dog will want to lick it off. NOT GOOD!
So, here are a few options.

1You can try to avoid the salt, which is not always the easiest thing to do.

2When you get home, rinse your dogs’ paws, making sure to get in between those furry toes!

3You can get booties for your dog. Booties can also help the smaller breeds or dogs with not much fur protection. When buying booties, make sure you have your dog with you, so your dog can try them on. You will want to make sure that they are nice and snug, as they will fling off if your dog likes to frolic in the snow! For some dogs, it will take some time to get used to wearing them; they may not even want to move. But, when they can last that much longer in the snow, it is well worth it!

If you find when you get home, your dog is drinking a lot of water, this is simply because it is licking the salt off its paws – this is normal.
